Last Friday, we woke up to the worst news. Ro Guerra, our friend, colleague, and core member of Panacea, had died on March 12th.
We were left speechless, with an indescribable pain and a deep sorrow.
Ro was a joyful and loving person with a deep sensitivity towards animals and people alike, who carried out commendable work in Panacea. Those of us lucky enough to know her closely, know that she was an outstanding, curious and inextinguishable person who could sometimes communicate even more with her gaze and silences than with words. She was somewhat of a renaissance woman and definitely a fighter.
Her eagerness to learn, her ability to communicate and transmit what she learnt, her giving herself away wholly towards everything she did, and her stance on the world, were part of her essence.
She wanted to change the world and dreamt about making it a better place, in balance with people and nature.
Her solid commitment with human rights pushed her to take part in multiple international initiatives, collaborating with ETAF in Ukraine, and more recently, trying to cross to Palestine during the turmoil of war.
That deep commitment led her to participate in many international workshops and congresses, as well as publishing several scientific articles as part of her doctoral dissertation.
Her professional footprint is unquestionable, and her humanistic spirit, exemplary to everyone in a world that seems to be adrift.
We miss you and we will always miss you. We are grateful and lucky to have met you and to have shared time with you.
Rest in peace.
