The Identification of Dr. Eugenio Berríos’ Remains

Published on January 17, 2025

THE EVENT

Dr. Eugenio Berríos was a Chilean chemist who cooperated with the political police of General Augusto Pinochet. After the end of the Chilean dictatorship in 1990, he moved to Uruguay.

In 1995, his body was found on a beach near Montevideo, the country’s capital.

During this webinar, Dr. Horacio Solla will explore how methods such as digital superimposition, analysis of personal belongings, dental records, and X-rays were used to confirm Berríos’ identity. This integrated approach makes use of several methods to resolve a forensic case linked to crimes during Pinochet’s dictatorship, thus demonstrating the usefulness of forensic anthropology in identification and justice.

This event will take place on January 23, 2025, at 4 PM CET.
