Showcasing Innovation at the 7th Portuguese Forensic Sciences Congress

On December 5, 2025, we had the opportunity to attend the 7th Congress of the Portuguese Association of Forensic Sciences in Porto (Portugal), held under the slogan “The reformulation of forensic activity in Portugal: from forensic sciences to forensic science.”
On Friday, our colleague David Navega gave a presentation entitled “Augmenting Forensic Examiners’ Capabilities with Trustworthy AI,” in which he discussed the current challenges and future applications of AI in the context of police forces and criminal investigations, modernization and automation of forensic toxicology lab routines, and ethics matters arising from AI.
The talk was part of the second session of the day, which was entirely dedicated to the topic “The impact of artificial intelligence on forensic science.”
